Students Unveil Creative Talents

Art and Design students at Edinburgh’s Telford College are marking the end of their courses with an awe-inspiring public exhibition of art work this week.

From Friday, 13 June, students from the HND, BTEC and Pathways courses will showcase their talents in illustration, graphic and digital design, textiles, fashion and interior design. A competition to design the logo for Waterfront Edinburgh Management has also been running in the college recently, and the winner will be announced at the private opening of the exhibition on Thursday, 12 June. The successful student will receive a Nikon Digital SLR Camera and a week’s work placement with Edinburgh design company Design Works.

Helena Good, Lecturer at Edinburgh’s Telford College, said: “This exhibition is the culmination of many months of hard work and the students are looking forward to unveiling their creative designs to the public.

“As well as building a solid foundation across a range of spectrums, the Art and Design courses at Telford allow students to develop links with industry, such as taking part in the Waterfront Edinburgh competition, the likes of which provide students with the ideal stepping stones to a promising career.”

Jane Dennyson, Marketing and Communications Manager at Waterfront Edinburgh, said: “We were absolutely delighted to work in conjunction with Telford College on this project as we have enjoyed a fantastic relationship with them in the past.

“It was important for us to find a design that reflected the local community and also one that was young, bright and exciting.

“We would like to say a big thank you and to everyone who took part and made this competition possible. We look forward to further projects with the College.”

Waterfront Edinburgh is just one of over hundred organisations invited to the private view of the exhibition this Thursday. Design agencies, employers and key college stakeholders will come together to celebrate the students achievements.

Helena continues: “This exhibition is the ideal opportunity for students to meet with potential employers. It also enables the College to connect with agencies to explore future opportunities”.

The Art and Design exhibition will be held at Edinburgh’s Telford College, 350 West Granton Road, Edinburgh and will be open from Friday, 13th May until Tuesday, 17 May (not Sunday) between 9am and 8.30pm
