Planners give hope over proposed hotel

Plans for a hotel on the Waterfront have been given outline consent by city planners.
Regeneration company Waterfront Edinburgh Limited (WEL) is to build a 200-room hotel at West Shore Road in Granton as part of a development that will also include a restaurant, convenience store and 42 flats.
The actual development of the hotel, however, could be a long way off as a hotel developer still has to be found before the plans are taken forward.
A site which is sold with outline planning permission already in place is significantly more marketable to developers but they would still have to submit a detailed application.
Colin Hunter, chief executive of WEL, said: "I am delighted the council has awarded WEL outline planning permission for this project. This site has vast potential and, now with the planning approval, we can market it to its fullest. This is a great site for a hotel and one we are confident will prove popular to developers."
WEL had invited pupils from Broughton High School to consult on the project and investigate what locals, workers and potential visitors to the area would want to see in the three proposed commercial units surrounding the hotel.
