New superstore to create 400 jobs at Waterfront
By The Scotsman : 20 May 2008
More than 400 jobs are to be created when a new Asda store opens on the Waterfront.
Fresh images have been published showing how the controversial new "European-style" Asda at Western Harbour will look.
The 4280 square metre store is to open this autumn and Asda says it has been designed to ensure that it is appropriate to its surroundings, as well as to provide easy access for those arriving by public transport, car, bike or on foot.
Asda says the store will complement Loch Fyne Restaurant and Italian restaurant specialist Prezzo which have both already moved into the fishmarket buildings at Newhaven harbour.
Lisa Rooke, Asda's property communications manager for Scotland, said: "Our proposals for our store in Leith are extremely exciting. The plans have been specifically developed to offer a truly distinctive design that is appropriate for the area."
Nathan Thompson, managing director of Forth Ports' property division, said: "This is great news for the Western Harbour area which is undergoing a transformation as part of our waterfront regeneration programme."
